2017 ALL-CON Friday Night Cosplay Contest
The Rules!

It’s Back! The ALL-CON Friday Night Cosplay contest hosted by CosPod. We are in our third year, and we are going to make this contest bigger and better than ever before. Join us Friday, March 17 at 7 PM for a contest you don’t want to miss.

And check it out - New Time! Now you don’t have a reason to skip out on entering or seeing the contest! With a 7 PM start, you’ll have plenty of time to dress up and jump in.

Cosplayers can sign up starting today. We recommend signing up early to avoid the on-site crowd. Once the entries fill up, we will have to close it. Follow the link to fill out the form:  https://goo.gl/forms/aJIvbfrgbQWZc1LI2

On-site sign-ups will be made available at the convention starting Thursday, March 16 at the computer across from the Volunteer’s Table on the second floor. There will be 2 contests listed, so make sure to select the application for the Friday Night Cosplay Contest. The on-site application will close at 4 PM Friday, March 17. Any questions? Please contact podcast@cospod.org.

●     Beginner: For first time cosplayers or for first time entries! Cosplayers in this category can not have won any major awards at any convention and need to have made or altered at least 50% of their costume.

●     Intermediate: If you’ve been cosplaying for 1-3 years, have some contest experience or have won at least 1 major award at any convention, this is your category. Entries must have made or altered at least 50% of their costume.

●     Advanced: The Advanced class is for cosplayers with more than 3 years of experience or have won at least 3 major awards from any convention. Entries must have made or altered at least 70% of their costume.

●     Note: If you are modeling the costume but did not make it, you can compete. The individual/group who made your costume(s) must be available for pre-judging and the contest.

●     Note 2: If you have purchased your costume, or it has not been modified to meet the 50% rule, you may walk the stage. You will only be eligible for Audience Favorite and a Judge’s Award (at their discretion).

  1. All entries must have an ALL-CON badge in order to participate (single/weekend passes).
  2. No costume is not a costume.
  3. All content must be PG-13 and conform to the convention’s standards regarding costumes and props.
  4. At least 50%-70% of your costume must be constructed by you and/or the crafter. Costumes purchased or lightly modified may walk the stage, but are only eligible for the Audience Favorite Award or a Judge’s Award (at their discretion).
  5. Costumes must be a pre-existing property from movies, television, anime, comic book, etc. Gijinkas and original characters are allowed but references are required.
  6. If your costume has won a major award at any convention (Craftsmanship, Best in Class/Category, Best in Show) it may compete at the ALL-CON Friday Night Cosplay Contest. However, your costume will not be eligible for Category awards nor Best in Show. It will be eligible for Audience Favorite or a Judge’s Award.
  7. This contest is for Walk-On’s only. We do not have a skit division.
  8. Each walk-on contestant will have 30 seconds on stage. Use the time to pose, act, or dance your butt off! Take the time to act out as your character.
  9. Microphones will not be available for contestants. Please do not shout or yell while on the stage. This includes No swearing, vulgar gestures, lewd acts, or political and/or social statements.
  10. Anything that you bring onto the stage must also go off the stage with you. That means No confetti. No throwing objects or any projectiles.
  11. For safety, any “battle” sequences or stunts need to be performed at ¾ or ½ speed, and ½ strength, with one foot remaining on the stage at all times.
  12. Only 4 people are allowed on the stage at a time. Larger groups will need to split up their entries to accommodate the stage space.
  13. Contestants must arrive in full costume at 6:15 PM on Friday, March 17, for line-up and pre-judging at the Cosplay Room. Late contestants may be disqualified. You will have 2 minutes to talk to the judges about your costume. There will be a hard stop at 2 minutes, so make sure to focus on the details you want to stand out to the judges!
  14. All contestants must bring in a photocopy print-out reference of their character. This includes original designs/characters.
  15. The ALL-CON Cosplay Contest is as much about fun as it is about good sportsmanship. Every contestant is expected to have a positive attitude and be on their best behavior. Failure to have sportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification. Please be polite and respectful to the cosplay staff, crew, judges, the audience, and most important of all - your fellow competitors.

There will be a Judge’s Award from each Judge (at the sole discretion of the judging team). One winner for each category. One winner for Audience Favorite (based on best reaction by crowd). One Grand Prize winner for Best In Show. Additional awards may be provided based on the number of entries. All decisions are final.
